SHC/LPCH Bargaining Update: Rumor Circulating About CRONA Negotiations

Apparently a rumor is spreading that the Hospitals will be locking out nurses even if they don’t vote to strike.

This is completely false.

The Hospitals have no plans to lock out our nurses.

We are bargaining in good faith with CRONA to reach a fair and mutually agreeable contract that includes a new advancement program and we hope that this can be accomplished without a strike or threat of a strike. However, it must be understood that it is critical to both of our Hospitals that we move forward with a new advancement program and we take this very seriously. Read more here.

SHC/LPCH Present Their Initial Economic Proposal to CRONA

On Tuesday, February 23, the Hospitals began the session in the morning by presenting our initial economic proposal in response to CRONA’s initial economic proposal presented in the February 17th session. CRONA’s initial proposal was based on the premise that the parties would not bargain the establishment of the Professional Nurse Development Program (PNDP). Our economic proposal includes a modified version of our original PNDP proposal with the details of the proposed transition period, adjustments to job titles for Staff Nurses and the BSN requirement for Clinical Nurse III and IV status, and our initial proposal for wage increases for all nursing classifications.

LPCH/SHC Bargaining Update: Overview of Proposed PNDP

Since February 4, 2010, when the Hospitals proposed the new Professional Nurse Development Program (PNDP) to our nurses’ union, CRONA, there has been a considerable amount of discussion regarding our decision to bargain the establishment of a PNDP. Earlier this month, SHC/LPCH presented to CRONA our proposal for a Professional Nurse Development Program. SHC/LPCH Bargaining Update: Hospitals and CRONA Begin Bargaining Today — Monday, January 25

Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital (SHC/LPCH) have formally announced our bargaining team in preparation for negotiations with our nurses union, CRONA, which will commence today — Monday, January 25. Correction to Recent Report on SHC/LPCH Contract Negotiations in News Article

SHC/LPCH's new contract with SEIU-UHW provides a 2% across the board increase each year, not 4% as reported in a recent article by Health Leaders Media. The two-year contract with SEIU-UHW was ratified in a vote on August 27, 2009.

Highlights of the new contract include:

  • 2% across the board wage increases each year.
  • An additional 2% annual step increase for those eligible.

The SEIU-UHW membership, which represents 1,450 out of 9,172 employees at the hospitals in jobs such as housekeeping, food service, nursing assistants, and technicians.

SHC/LPCH Bargaining Update: Hospitals Close to Agreement with UHW

The Hospitals are pleased to announce that we have reached what we think is a fair tentative agreement with UHW-SEIU. We have been told the union is recommending that employees accept the agreement. This tentative agreement does not become final until the represented employees vote to ratify it tomorrow, Thursday, August 27th. The union will be providing the details to the employees in the bargaining unit at the ratification vote tomorrow. We encourage represented employees to attend these meetings.

SHC/LPCH Bargaining Update: What’s on the Table for UHW?

For the last year, the Hospitals and the union United Healthcare Workers West (UHW) have been bargaining a new contract for the 1,450 employees who elected to be represented by UHW in September 2008. Throughout these sessions, we have had a productive dialogue regarding non-economic and economic concerns.
